Consultations d'Ophtalmologie (CHPG)

The Ophthalmology Consultations Service is located in the Tamaris Building – 1st floor.

HEAD OF SERVICE: Dr Olivier BETIS

This speciality is part of the Surgical Specialities Department, which includes ENT, ophthalmology, urology and gynaecology.

The service offers ophthalmology consultations by appointment, and also treats emergency cases. The team’s expertise covers the following areas:
▪ Medical and surgical treatment of vitreoretinal and macular disorders. Age-related macular degeneration (diagnosis, Visudyne photodynamic therapy, anti-VEGF intravitreal injection and haematoma surgery. Low vision assessment and functional rehabilitation). Macular surgery (epiretinal membrane, macular hole, etc.). Medical and surgical treatment of diabetic retinopathy. Surgical treatment of retinal detachment.
▪ Medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma. Screening, diagnosis and monitoring: Humphrey (Zeiss) and MetroVision visual field testing, papillary and retinal nerve fibre analysis using Stratus optical coherence tomography (OCT) (Zeiss) and Heidelberg retinal tomography (HRT) (Heidelberg), pachymetry and selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT).
▪ Cataract surgery: phacoemulsification, a modern, cutting-edge technique, and microincisions.
▪ Ocular adnexal surgery: eyelids and tear ducts.
▪ Paediatric ophthalmology: sight testing for babies aged 3–4 months, amblyopia screening and treatment.
▪ Diagnosis and rehabilitation of binocular vision disorders.

The service has access to a wide range of specialist equipment:

YAG laser for the anterior segment of the eye (iridotomy, capsulotomy), Argon laser for retinal photocoagulation, retinal laser for photodynamic therapy, SLT for trabeculoplasty (glaucoma).
• MetroVision and Humphrey (Zeiss) visual field testing equipment.
• Laser retinal angiography (fluorescein and indocyanine green) coupled with retinal tomography using Spectralis OCT (Heidelberg).
• Retinal and papillary tomography using Stratus OCT (Zeiss) and the latest generation Spectralis OCT (Heidelberg).
• Electrophysiological testing: electroretinography (ERG), electro-oculography (EOG), visual evoked potential (VEP) testing, MetroVision
• A- and B-mode ultrasound and anterior segment ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).
• Endothelial cell count by specular microscopy.
